Provides a solution of shared storage without any shared storage!

by crispi 4:05pm, 10/06/09
(I have deployed this appliance)

This does exactly what it's supposed to do - creates a "RAID" of two or more storage appliances, which between them provide a single iSCSI target. Each VSA uses ESX's own *local* storage, but they keep the data blocks synchronised between them. Very ingenious, but expensive.

Missing information

While the appliance seems to work as described, the hidden 30-day expiration makes its value limited. It would've been much better to have the 30-day limit as part of the pricing (it currently says "FREE") so that users not interested in evaluating for purchase--i.e., they need a demo system but don't want to reinstall every 30 days--don't waste their time on the product.

Drive Error

After several trys and finally figuring out how to download the CMC, I am receiving Disk "Off or removed" error. I gave a rating of 1 due to lack of ease of use so far. P.S. You can download the CMC by changing "http" to "https" in the url of the download popup window.

I have tried to download this appliance for 3 days now but I keep getting the message your request cannot be handled on the HP site. I have emailed their support but no reply. Any help for me to try VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM?
