VMware

Oracle databases and applications provide mission-critical software foundations for the majority of large enterprises worldwide. VMware Infrastructure 3 simplifies IT environments so that Oracle IT administrators can leverage their storage, network, and computing resources to control costs and respond quickly to changing business needs. In the demanding world of Oracle application development and deployment, virtualized infrastructure brings quantifiable time-to-market and TCO improvements by reducing development hardware infrastructure costs and by allowing more developers and users to be hosted on existing and future industry standard hardware.

Since Oracle Database is one of the most commonly virtualized applications, VMware invests a great deal of work towards optimizing its performance on VMware Infrastructure. The imminent VMware ESX 3.5 release is our best database platform to date, with several new advanced optimizations. Read more about the new VMware ESX 3.5 features that drive this great performance.

Oracle Support

Oracle has a support policy that hundreds of VMware customers are using to deploy Oracle applications and databases in development as well as in production. Oracle will provide support for issues that either are known to occur on the native OS, or demonstrated as not being a result of running on VMware Infrastructure. Please refer to article 249212.1 on Oracle metalink for details.
