Preparing for Your Upgrade
STEP
1
Review the “# Purchased” quantity for all VMware Infrastructure and VMware vCenter licenses. Assuming the subscription on the licenses will be active on the date of VMware vSphere general availability, these quantities correspond to the quantities of VMware vSphere licenses you will receive.
STEP
2
The quantity of contracts and the quantity of licenses listed should match your expectations. The primary contact for license upgrade notification, etc. will be the Primary License Administrator (PLA) on each contract. (You can identify the PLA on your contracts on the Contracts summary page.)
STEP
3
VMware is actively working with our partners to provide a rich set of hardware on our HCL when VMware vSphere 4 becomes generally available. In the meantime, please contact your HW vendor of choice for vSphere 4.0 support specifics.
STEP
4
Get information about choosing and installing guest operating systems for VMware virtual machines, including details on operating systems supported by VMware products, their installation instructions, and known issues.
STEP
5
This is an excerpt from an upcoming VM Book, “The Path to vSphere Unleashed,” which describes the requirements and pre-requisites to begin planning for the upgrade of an existing VMware Infrastructure to VMware vSphere.
